Congolese artist Houston Maludi is best known for creating what he calls the ‘monochromatic cubism, symbiotic quantum’, a very personal reinterpretation of Cubism. Maludi’s practice is characterised by colour contrasts and, very often, black and white. His works are predominately rendered as intricate, monochromatic line paintings and drawings that map out psychological cartographies of Kinshasa city. Art is a quest for him. In his own words: ‘I seek the truth in the form because the material is an obstacle to the view I pierce to discover the infinite universe. That is my approach and my philosophy.'
